The social integration of people with Down Syndrome has been marked by various barriers that impede their success in assertive relationships with members of society and being an actor in sustainable development because, says Kelly (1992), the existence of a delay in Cognitive functions historically positioned them in terms of subnormality and with interpersonal deficiencies influencing the evolution of their social skills. In addition to the above, the impact on the psychosocial dimension of this population was marked by the conceptualization of disability in the models of exclusion and rehabilitation that, from a capitalist economic perspective, were unnecessary since they did not strengthen the acquisition of national capital or contributed in the resolution of social demands.
