Descripción :	This article aims to analyze the process of construction of the Antillean cultural identity, presenting literature as a fundamental element in this process. This analysis begins by considering the historical and economic formation of the Antilles and then its literary movements such as Negritude, which contributed significantly to the identity construction of the Antillean Afro-descendants. Through the Literary Negritude Movement, the Antillean Afro-descendant writer seeks to “rescue” the origins of being black in order to deconstruct the negative and derogatory image that was created from the white man’s view and, therefore, to show the Afro-descendant culture and its value from another perspective. We will study the example of the Afro-descendant writer Maryse Condé, one of the greatest representatives of the Antillean literature. To support this paper, we shall turn to Stuart Hall (2003), Butel (2007), Maximin (1996), Glissant (2005), among others. Este artigo tem como proposta analisar o processo de construção da identidade cultural antilhana apresentando como elemento fundamental neste processo a literatura. Tal análise iniciará com algumas considerações acerca da formação histórica e econômica das Antilhas, seguida da apresentação de movimentos literários, como o da Negritude, que contribuíram de forma significativa para a construção identitária do afrodescendente antilhano, tanto o escritor como o negro em geral. Através do Movimento Literário da Negritude, o escritor afrodescendente antilhano busca, através da narrativa literária, “resgatar” as origens do ser negro a fim de desconstruir a imagem negativa e depreciativa que foi construída, a partir da visão do homem branco, e agregada à sua cultura e, com isso, mostrar a cultura afrodescendente vista por outro ângulo e, consequentemente, seu valor. Tomaremos como exemplo a escritora afrodescendente Maryse Condé, uma das maiores representantes da literatura antilhana. Para fundamentar este trabalho nos valeremos de autores como Stuart Hall (2003a, 2003b), Butel (2007), Maximin (1996), Glissant (2005), entre outros.
