| Descripción : | Guy de Maupassant’s short stories reveal some dramatic techniques which had already been used by him in his first drama texts. Although his plays were just known by a small public, specially at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, these plays show aspects of his work that reinforce the effect of the real, the dialogues and the turnabout, which are characteristics of his short narratives. Some of his short stories have been adapted for the theatre, what proves the potential of his text for the stage, its topicality and narrative structures that continue to attract the modern public.

Os contos de Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893) revelam recursos dramáticos já antes trabalhados por ele nos seus primeiros textos teatrais. Embora suas peças tenham fi cado conhecidas apenas por um pequeno público, sobretudo no fi m do século XIX e início do XX, elas revelam aspectos de sua obra que potencializam o efeito de real, os diálogos e a reviravolta característicos de suas narrativas curtas. Seus contos também foram algumas vezes – e continuam a ser – adaptados para o teatro, o que mostra o potencial cênico de seus textos, sua atualidade e estruturas narrativas que continuam atraindo o público moderno.
