Descripción :	The idea of a “society of information” could only make sense if we have in mind that it is only a new fase of capitalism, in which the technologies of information have a fundamental relevance. From the point of view of theory, problems arise when there is articulation between the determinations imposed by the system and those originated in the daily life, according to Habermas. But the solution given by Habermas will be criticized here, from the perspective of the Political Economics of Communication, incorporating the central idea of mediation, from the authors of the Cultural Studies. The elements of articulation are the concepts of cultural work and intellectual work..Only then, it will be possible to understand the meaning of the present transformations, which will be supported by the contribution of Lévy. A idéia de uma “sociedade da informação” só poderá fazer sentido quando estiver claro que se trata simplesmente de uma nova fase do capitalismo, em que as tecnologias da informação adquirem uma relevância fundamental. De um ponto de vista teórico, a problemática que se coloca na ordem do dia é a da articulação entre determinações impostas pelo sistema e aquelas originadas no mundo da vida, segundo a dicotomia utilizada por Habermas. Porém a solução habermassiana será aqui tomada criticamente, na perspectiva da Economia Política da Comunicação, incorporando, por outro lado, a questão central da mediação, realizada por autores dos chamados Estudos Culturais. Os elementos de articulação propostos são os conceitos de trabalho cultural e de trabalho intelectual. A partir daí, podemos entender melhor o significado das transformações atuais, o que será feito com base numa crítica da contribuição de Lévy.
