Título :	MULTIMODALITY IN REPORT GENRE: IDEATIONAL/REPRESENTATIONAL METAFUNCTION AND GENDER AT MASS MEDIA MULTIMODALIDADE EM REPORTAGEM: METAFUNÇÃO IDEACIONAL/REPRESENTACIONAL E GÊNERO SOCIAL NA MÍDIA

Descripción :	Believing that beyond the limits of a verbal reading, reports hold an ideology also through the images that they convey, I accomplish a multimodal study on a report published by Veja magazine, aiming to complete the analysis of ideational metafunction in the verbal text, based on Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar (2004), by identifying verbal processes of transitivity, with the analysis of ideational/representational metafunction in the non-verbal text based on Kress and van Leeuwen’s Grammar of Visual Design (2006), by checking narrative and conceptual processes. These last authors propose a methodology that understands the ideational metafunction as related to representational meanings in the images. The fact that the report is not signed expresses the ideological and opinionated character of this media institution. This was suggested by both the massive presence of relational processes, with classification function, in the verbal text, as well as by numerous underlying classification conceptual processes found in the images, which classify couples as destined to a "happy ending" – joining men with younger women –, or to an "unhappy ending" - separating men from older women. Acreditando que, para além dos limites de uma leitura verbal, as reportagens encerram uma ideologia também por meio das imagens que veiculam, realizo um estudo multimodal de uma reportagem publicada pela revista Veja, buscando complementar a análise da metafunção ideacional no texto verbal, baseada na Gramática Sistêmico-Funcional de Halliday (2004), através da identificação de processos verbais de transitividade, com a análise da metafunção ideacional/representacional no texto não verbal, baseada na Gramática do Design Visual, de Kress e van Leeuwen (2006), verificando processos conceituais e narrativos. Esses últimos autores propõem uma metodologia que entende a metafunção ideacional como relacionada a significados representacionais nas imagens. O fato de a reportagem não ser assinada manifesta o caráter ideológico e opinativo dessa instituição midiática. Isso foi sugerido tanto pela maciça presença de processos relacionais de função classificatória no texto verbal, quanto pelos inúmeros processos conceituais classificatórios subjacentes encontrados nas imagens, os quais classificam casais como destinados a um “final feliz” – unindo homens com mulheres mais jovens –, ou a um “final infeliz” – separando homens de mulheres mais velhas.
