Descripción :	En la justificación formal de este evento decimos que: "La misión fundamental de la Universidad Nacional es contribuir al conocimiento de la realidad social para mejorarla. Dentro de estas perspectivas, la investigación constituye, en el quehacer universitario, el instrumento y medio viabilizador en las acciones tendientes al logro de este propósito_ Así el Area de Investigación de la Facultad de Ciencias Sociales, a través de los Departamentos, Escuelas e Institutos que la forman y la propia Unidad Coordinadora de Investigación y Documentación (UCID), han tratado de desarrollar un trabajo creativo para conocer e interpretar la realidad nacional". En el presente, el quehacer investigativo se enfrenta al reto de la "crisis" que obliga a investigar para formular una estrategia viable sobre la realidad social costarricense, que contribuya al desarrollo inmediato y futuro del país. In the formal justification of this event we say that: "The fundamental mission of the National University is to contribute to the knowledge of the social reality in order to improve it. Within these perspectives, research constitutes, in the university's work, the instrument and viable means in the actions tending to the achievement of this purpose_ Thus the Research Area of the Faculty of Social Sciences, through the Departments, Schools and Institutes that form it and the very Coordination Unit of Research and Documentation (UCID), have tried to develop a creative work to know and interpret the national reality". At present, the research work faces the challenge of the "crisis" that forces research to formulate a viable strategy on the Costa Rican social reality, which contributes to the immediate and future development of the country.
