dc.descriptionThis paper discusses a specific form of Latin American chronicle about the Spanish Civil War: the transatlantic chronicle written by its authors on the ship carrying the mouthier journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Many of the Latin American correspondents discussed in this paper were renowned novelists and poets, who traveled to Spain to witness the conflict first hand. These correspondents engaged in this lyrical and maritime writing to leave testimony detailing their journey, motivated by a desire to capture their expectations upon departure and document the return. The analysis of these texts leads to a deeper understanding of the war correspondent as a figure, the Latin American perspective on Spain and the characteristics of a flexible genre that ranges from periodical publications to books — a valuable vehicle of cultural mediation.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo aborda un modelo específico de las crónicas hispanoamericanas de la Guerra Civil española: la crónica transatlántica escrita en el propio barco que lleva a sus autores a través del océano Atlántico en un viaje de ida o vuelta. Muchos de los cronistas hispanoamericanos que se desplazan a España para presenciar la contienda –algunos de ellos, narradores y poetas de renombre– practican esta escritura marítima de un lirismo muy particular (avivado por las expectativas del viaje en la partida o la evocación de la experiencia en el regreso) y dejan el testimonio de su travesía. El examen de estos textos permite profundizar en el conocimiento de aspectos como la figura del corresponsal de guerra, la mirada sobre España desde el continente americano y las características de un género versátil que fluctúa entre las publicaciones periódicas y el formato libro y que constituye un valioso vehículo de mediación cultural.es-ES
