dc.descriptionThe paper investigates the role of architecture, topography, and space for the religious communication and the creation of sacred space in the colonial Bolivian altiplano. It scrutinizes different forms and techniques of representation of Christian and Andean concepts in religious architectures, like churches and churchyards. Moreover, taking into account the case of the Andean town of Carabuco, its topographical characteristics, architectural artifacts and the representation of both in a visual source of the 17th century, it sheds new light on the processes of communication and appropriation of religious knowledge in a colonial contact zone.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo trata de la función de la arquitectura, la topografía y el espacio para la comunicación religiosa y la creación de espacios sagrados en el altiplano boliviano durante la época colonial. Se investigarán por una parte diferentes formas y maneras de representación de conceptos andinos y cristianos en las construcciones religiosas, sobre todo iglesias y atrios. También se discutirán fenómenos de apropiación recíproca de saberes religiosos por todos los grupos y actores presentes en esta zona de contacto colonial, tomando como ejemplo el caso de Carabuco (Bolivia), con su localización topográfica, sus artefactos arquitectónicos y la representación de estos en una fuente visual del siglo xvii.es-ES
