Descripción :	Hace algunos meses una colega me preguntó si conocía algún estudio que defendiera la necesidad de aprender a leer y escribir la notación musical tradicional (1), a lo que respondí comentando la posición de un profesor de educación musical italiano que conozco muy bien: considera indispensable servirse de la notación tradicional, por ser ésta un producto cultural con una vigencia que según él no se debe ignorar. El contexto en que enseña este profesor es la escuela obligatoria y es aquí donde en muchas ocasiones se ha planteado el debate y puesto en duda esta necesidad. A few months ago a colleague asked me if I knew of any study that would defend the need to learn to read and write the traditional musical notation (1), to which I responded by commenting on the position of an Italian music education teacher whom I know very well: To use traditional notation, because this is a cultural product with a validity that according to him should not be ignored. The context in which this teacher teaches is the compulsory school and it is here that in many occasions the debate has been raised and this necessity is questioned.
