In this article, some reflections on “clarification”, “emancipation”, culture “formation” and “semiformation”, pointed out by Kant and Adorno, are presented and how these concepts are related to education and the history of teacher education in the present day. To think about the relationship between clarification, emancipation, formation and semiformation with the formation of teachers in the present day is at least a task of the most difficult, especially when these terms are used in official documents, guiding public educational policies, hardly ever taking into account the origin of the concepts. In this sense, for the preparation of this article, reference is made to the current existence of this problem and the fact that the discussions about these concepts have lasted in our society for more than two centuries. Pensar a relação entre esclarecimento, emancipação, formação e semiformação com a formação de professores nos dias atuais é, no mínimo, uma tarefa das mais difíceis, principalmente quando tais termos são utilizados em documentos oficiais, norteadores de políticas públicas educacionais, quase nunca se levando em consideração a origem dos conceitos. Nesse sentido, para a elaboração deste artigo, tomam-se por referência a existência atual dessa problemática e o fato de as discussões sobre esses conceitos perdurarem em nossa sociedade há mais de dois séculos.
