| dc.description | The ABC of Absolutism in Eighteenth Century Ibero-American Political Catechisms ResumenLos catecismos políticos absolutistas surgieron en Iberoamérica en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, antes de la Revolución Francesa. El examen de un corpus de estos catecismos mediante técnicasde análisis del discurso permite establecer quiénes fueron sus autores, las circunstancias de su aparición y los temas conque intentaban darle sentidoal mundo de los súbditos del Rey, especialmente a los indígenas americanos. Se sostiene que los catecismos absolutistas americanos se escribieron ante la expulsión de los jesuitas y la necesidad de reemplazar sus enseñanzas. Por último, se establecen las modalidades de esas enseñanzas y el alcance de su difusión.AbstractAbsolutist political catechisms emerged in IberoAmericain the second half of the 18th century before the French Revolution.Discourse analysis techniques applied to a corpus of these catechisms reveal who the authors were, the circumstances surroundingtheir publication andthe themes they developed in order to give me an ing to the worldofking’s subjects, in particular that of the indigenous people. In this article, I argueth at the SpanishAmerican absolutist catechisms were written in response to the expulsion of the Jesuits and the need to find alternate venues to replace their teachings.
