| dc.description | ResumenLas mujeres han participado en todas las acciones políticas sucedidas en el país; junto con los hombres lucharon contra la dictadura para establecer la democracia. Sin embargo, las mujeres no están igualmente representadas en el sistema democrático. ¿Por qué el género femenino está subrepresentado en todos los niveles de gobierno? Las mujeres han organizado y enfrentado todo tipo de problemas —vecinales, exigencia de servicios básicos para los barrios, bajos precios— y todavía están subrepresentadas como decisores en el gobierno. Factores culturales y las nociones tokenism y glass ceiling parecen estar jugando papel importante en la participación política de la mujer en Venezuela.AbstractWomen have been involved in all the political actions currently taking place within the country. Alongside men, women have fought against dictatorship and have strived to establish democracy. However, they do not bear equal representation within the democratic system. Why is the female gender underrepresented at all government levels? Women have organized and faced all types of problems —community issues, basic services for marginal areas, lower prices— and yet they are still underrepresented in governmental decision making instances. Cultural factors and concepts such as tokenism and glass ceiling seem to play a significant role in regards to women’s involvement in Venezuelan political instances. | es-ES |
