| dc.description | El proceso de reinstitucionalización social que se inició en la República de Venezuela entre 1830y 1847, buscó conjugar el objetivo político inicial de nuestra independencia. Si bien existía un alto grado de consenso en el pensamiento liberal venezolano de la temprana república, también estaban conscientes de la enorme distancia que mediaba entre el ideal político al que aspiraban y la realidad social que tenían por delante. Las tareas pendientes para cubrir la brecha entre el deber ser político y el ser social fueron visualizadas en un proceso gradual de cambio anclado en el nuevo orden público y la continuidad administrativa que, en el largo plazo, llevarían al país por la senda de la paz, la libertad y el progreso, para hablar en palabras de Juan Vicente González. Sin embargo, ya a mediados de la década de los años cuarenta encontramos en la opinión pública de la época reflexiones críticas que apuntaban, con gran visión política, hacia las limitaciones del liberalismo venezolano. Presentar esa reflexión, en boca de los pensadores más lúcidos de aquel entonces, es el objetivo de este ensayo.Limitations of Venezuelan liberalismin the eyes of its actors, 1830-1847AbstractThe social re-institutionalization process in Venezuela from 1830 to 1847 sought to integrate the initial political objective of our independence, that is, the creation of a Venezuelan state, independent of the Spanish monarchy and located in territory occupied by the Captaincy General of Venezuela, with the liberal vision of the state and public powers held by the elite who had separated from the Republic of Colombia and definitely ruptured with the ideals of Bolivar. In spite of great consensus within Venezuelan liberal minds of the early Republic, many were also aware of the underlying distance between the political ideal aspired and social reality ahead. The tasks required to bridge the gap between what social was and what political should have been were visualized in a gradual change process, based ntirely on public order and administrative continuity, which in the long term, would, in the words of Juan Vicente González, lead the country toward peace, liberty and progress. Nevertheless, in the mid-1840’s, public opinion, displaying great political vision, critically reflected on the limitations of Venezuelan liberalism. This essay is intended to shed light on these reflections in the words of the most lucid thinkers of such time. | es-ES |
