dc.description	This article presents two fundamental questions for an understanding of the role of Latin America within the strugle for world hegemony: firstly, the U.S. doctrine of national and economic security; and, secondly, the strategic resources available in the region. On the basis of a geopolitical analysis of Latin America, the author seeks to explain the U.S. policy of territorial occupation.
