dc.description	The objective of this article is to identify the socioeconomic characteristics of the university student caring for a family member with dependency. A cross-sectional exploratory quantitative methodology was used, applying an instrument that measured sociodemographic dimensions, role and consequences of care. There was informed consent, confidentiality and voluntary participation of 30 students. The results showed that 83.3% are women, who care for parents, in strata 2 and 3, with incomes between a minimum wage and less. They have dedicated between 2 and 6 years and more than 8 hours to family care. It affects their academic development, depression and stress. Vulnerability profile is demonstrated with intrinsic and extrinsic factors that constitute an abandonment risk profile. It is necessary to transcend to other spheres, commonly privileged for health, generating an active role in students and a culturally competent professional accompaniment.	en-US
dc.description	El objetivo del artículo es identificar las características socioeconómicas del estudiante universitario cuidador de un familiar con dependencia. Se empleó una metodología cuantitativa exploratoria transversal, aplicándose un instrumento que midió dimensiones sociodemográficas, rol y consecuencias del cuidado. Se contó con el consentimiento informado, confidencialidad y participación voluntaria de 30 estudiantes. Los resultados evidenciaron que 83,3% son mujeres, que cuidan a padres, en estratos 2 y 3, con ingresos entre un salario mínimo y menos. Han dedicado entre 2 y 6 años y más de 8 horas al cuidado del familiar. Se presenta afectación en su desarrollo académico, depresión y estrés. Se demuestra perfil de vulnerabilidad con factores intrínsecos como extrínsecos que se constituyen en un perfil de riesgo de abandono. Se requiere trascender a otras esferas, comúnmente privilegiadas para la salud, generando un rol activo en estudiantes y un acompañamiento profesional culturalmente competente.	es-ES
