In this paper we propose a comparative approach, with multilocal etnography, of two cases of antagonism between the state and the sellers in the province of Mendoza: one in the urban space and in a context of progress in migratory and labor rights; and the other in a rural territory and facing a clear setback in terms of rights throughout the national territory. Even though these forms of trade in the Andean region are an institution for its population since the pre-hispanic period, the Argentine state at its different levels has not recognized it as a form of 'work' and has sanctioned it through various regulations, exposing the sellers to multiple modalities of antagonism and confrontation with the security forces. Specifically, this exercise will allow us to highlight both the details of an activity that is not very visible in the field of labor studies in the region, and the way in which the spatial and normative context conditions the legitimacy of these popular economies.En este trabajo nos proponemos comparar desde un enfoque etnográfico multilocal, dos casos de antagonismo entre el Estado y los trabajadores/as de la feria en la provincia de Mendoza: uno emplazado en el espacio urbano y en un contexto de avance en los derechos migratorios y sociales; y el otro dispuesto en un territorio rural y frente a un claro retroceso en materia de derechos en todo el territorio nacional. Aun cuando estas formas de comercio en la región andina resultan una institución para sus pobladores desde el período prehispánico, el Estado argentino en sus diferentes niveles no las ha reconocido como una forma de “trabajo” y las ha sancionado a través de diversas normativas, exponiendo a los feriantes a múltiples modalidades de antagonismo y confrontación con las fuerzas de seguridad. De manera específica, este ejercicio nos permitirá poner de relieve, tanto los pormenores de una actividad poco visible en el campo de los estudios del trabajo en la región, como el modo en que el contexto espacial y normativo condicionan la legitimidad de estas economías populares.
