The research project, with a qualitative approach, had as its context one section of Bogotá, D. C., and its source of information were Physical Education teachersthat belong to the “Physical Education teachers’ network”. In this context, and thinking about the curricular reorganization of the area from a human perspective that contributes to the social and emotional construction of the student (autonomy, cooperativism, respect and all other intra and interpersonal abilities) 40 teachers from 18 public schools were interviewed in order to identify the meanings and senses (imaginaries) teachers give to the Physical Education area in the social and emotional construction of students. The results od the study, organized in various emergent categories, allow to appreciate the concepts of the interviewees on specific aspects of classroom pedagogical work, such as the conception and orientation of the area, contents, pedagogical criteria, didactic strategies and evaluation processes.La investigación, de corte cualitativo, tuvo como contexto una localidad de Bogotá, D.C., y sus fuentes de información son los profesores de educación física, que conforman la “Red de maestros de Educación Física”. En este contexto, con miras a la reorganización curricular del área desde una perspectiva más humana que aporte a la construcción social y emocional del escolar (autonomía, cooperativismo, respeto y demás habilidades intra e interpersonales) se realizaron 40 entrevistas a profesores de 18 colegios públicos, con el fin de identificar los significados y sentidos (imaginarios) que le otorgan los profesores del área a la educación física en la construcción social y emocional de los escolares. Los resultados del estudio, organizados en varias categorías emergentes, permiten apreciar las concepciones de los entrevistados sobre aspectos puntuales del trabajo pedagógico de aula, tales como la concepción y orientación del área, los contenidos, los criterios pedagógicos, las estrategias didácticas y los procesos evaluativos.
