With the present text we intend to carry out a reflexive exercise on the state of art regarding the sociology of education and its field of study from functionalist, interactionist, reproductive, correspondence, resistance and credentialist theories. An analysis is also presented on the impact of sociology in the study of the inequality of educational systems in Latin America and the implementation of educational policies that guarantee equity and equality of opportunitiesto access public education. To this end, the contributions of the theory of reproduction to the study of educational systems in Latin America from Bordieu and Bernstein are reviewed, as well as the reproductive notions raised and examined by Karl Marx, as opposed to education in a Capitalist system, and the notions of resistance, proposed by Henry Giroux, against a radical. pedagogy.Con el presente texto se pretende realizar un ejercicio reflexivo en torno al estado del arte respecto a la sociología de la educación y su campo de estudio a partir de teorías funcionalista, interaccionista, reproductiva, de la correspondencia, de la resistencia y credencialista. Igualmente se presenta un análisis sobre el impacto de la sociología en el estudio de la desigualdad de los sistemas educativos en América Latina y la implementación de políticas educativas que garanticen la equidad y la igualdad de oportunidades para acceder a la educación pública. Para tal efecto se revisan los aportes de la teoría de la reproducción al estudio de los sistemas educativos en América Latina a partir de Bordieu y Bernstein, así como las nociones reproductivas planteadas y examinadas por Karl Marx, frente a la educación en un sistema Capitalista, y las nociones de la resistencia, propuestas por Henry Giroux, frente a una pedagogía radical.
