The situation of artistic education in the school scene is certainly worrying, something that we can see in any country in Latin America. The result of this loss has been dramatically evident in the two decades that we have been in this century. The manifestations of the visual arts have taken a decisive role in homes and public spaces, in a very striking way during the coronavirus pandemic. However, in the legal field, in the curricular environment of formal education, the visual arts are losing weight, so that the assigned hours are drastically cut, and even the number of specialist teachers decreases. It is difficult to understand that in a society invaded by images, the study of visual culture is not considered a priority.La situación de la educación artística en el panorama escolar resulta ciertamente preocupante, algo que podemos comprobar en cualquier país de Latinoamérica. El resultado de esta pérdida se ha evidenciado de manera dramática en las dos décadas que llevamos de siglo. Las manifestaciones de las artes visuales han tomado un papel decisivo en los hogares y el espacio público, de forma muy llamativa durante la pandemia del coronavirus. Sin embargo, en el ámbito legal, en el entorno curricular de la educación formal, las artes visuales están perdiendo peso, de modo que se recortan drásticamente las horas asignadas, e incluso disminuye el número de profesorado especialista. Resulta difícil de entender que en una sociedad invadida por las imágenes, el estudio de la cultura visual no se considere algo prioritario.
