Descripción : | In Latin America, like other undeveloped regions as well, precarious employment is the most important problem for workers. In this paper it is argued that precarious employment had been a huge Latinamerican problem during fifty years, at least. Conventional economics explains employment problems because market imperfections, like excessive regulatory laws in favor of workers. In accordance with such explanation, lowering wages, diminishing workers rights and increasing foreigner competition would solve employment problems. Based on Marxist approach, a different view is stated: the huge precarious employment in Latin America is explained not by market imperfections but by higher organic composition of capital in undeveloped countries. Hence, current employment economic policies will impoverish employed workers without absorbing a significant share of precarious workers. |
