dc.descriptionThe purpose of this text is to present some approaches on the rela- tionship between the social imaginary, the image and social representations. It corresponds to a new version of a chapter published in the “Cambridge Handbook of Social Representations” (Arruda 2015). This version contains a new introduction and some minor modifications. First, I present a brief attempt to contextualize the development of the notions of imaginary and social representations. Next, I discuss the theoretical relationships among fi- guration (imaging), the imaginary, and the theory of social representations. In the third part, I review some of the research on social representations that present an explicit interest in the study of the imaginary both in its figurative dimension, and in its relevance for the development of studies on the image in social psychology, since images are gaining a growing influence today.en-US
dc.descriptionEl propósito de este este texto es presentar algunos planteamientos sobre la relación entre el imaginario social, la imagen y las representaciones sociales. Este corresponde a una nueva versión de un capítulo publicado en el Cambridge Handbook of Social Representations (Arruda, 2015[1]). Esta versión contiene una nueva introducción y pequeñas modificaciones. Primero presento una breve tentativa de contextualización del desarrollo de las nociones de imaginario y representaciones sociales. En seguida, discuto las relaciones teóricas entre figurar (la puesta en imagen), el imaginario y la teoría de las representaciones sociales. En la tercera parte reviso algunas investigaciones de representaciones sociales que presentan un interés explícito en el estudio del imaginario tanto en su dimensión figurativa como en su relevancia para el desarrollo de estudios sobre la imagen en psicología social, dado que las imágenes cobran una influencia creciente en la actualidad.[1] En Gordon Sammut, Eleni Andreouli, George Gaskell, Jaan Valsiner (eds.), (2015).  Cambridge Handbook on Social Representations.
