Descripción :	Inserido na temática das áreas protegidas, o trabalho apresenta os estudos realizados para subsidiar a criação de uma Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) em uma propriedade pertencente à Fundação MO’Ã no município de Itaara - RS. A partir de um levantamento da legislação sobre áreas protegidas, apresenta-se a proposta de instituição de uma RPPN por parte do Poder Público Municipal de Itaara. Esta proposta é sustentada pelo Diagnóstico Ambiental da área, possibilitando a identificação de condicionantes de fragilidade ambiental que justificam a adoção de medidas de proteção deste espaço natural. Os resultados encontrados através da construção de mapas temáticos são indicativos de restrições quanto à ocupação deste espaço devido ao relevo inclinado. Desta forma, busca-se motivar a discussão referente à criação de áreas protegidas na região central do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Palavras Chaves: Diagnóstico Ambiental; Áreas Protegidas; Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural. Within the theme of the protected areas, this paper presents the studies conducted to subsidize the establishment of a Private Reserve of Natural Heritage (PRNH) in a property belonging to the Foundation MO'Ã in the city of  Itaara - RS. From the survey of the legislation on protected areas, the proposal to establish a PRNH is shown by the public authority of Itaara. This proposal is supported by the Environmental Assessment of the area, enabling the identification of conditions of environmental fragility which justify the adoption of actions to protect this natural area. The results found by constructing thematic maps are indicative of restrictions on the occupation of this area due to the slope relief. This way, it was sought to motivate the discussion on the establishment of protected areas in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul. Keywords: Environmental Diagnosis, Protected Areas, Private Reserve of Natural Heritage.
