dc.descriptionResumo:Este artigo tem por objetivo refletir sobre o papel do narrador no livro Os sertões (1902), de Euclides da Cunha (1866-1909), no que concerne à aliança entre ciência e arte em seus escritos, bem como sobre sua singularidade estética no período histórico e literário do início do século XX brasileiro, o chamado Pré-modernismo, especialmente tomando por apoio teórico-filosófico a conceituação de ironia romântica, segundo Friedrich Schlegel, em consonância com o que a filósofa Hannah Arendt compreende por uma das atividades espirituais básicas: o ato de pensar. Literatura e sociedade.  Abstract:This article aims at reflecting on the narrator’s role in the book Os sertões (1902), written by Euclides da Cunha, regarding the alliance between science and art in his writings, as well as his aesthetic singularity in the literary and historical period of the early twentieth century in Brazil, the so-called Pre-modernist style, especially by taking theoretical and philosophical support from the concept of romantic irony according to Friedrich Schlegel, in line with what philosopher Hannah Arendt took as one of the most important spiritual activities: the act of thinking.
