Descripción :	The demonstration by workers and students inWisconsin, in February and April, marked a newphase in US political conflicts. Within a context inwhich Democrats and Republicans acted togetherin defense of austerity policies, the anti-unionmeasures of the governor of Wisconsin led tothe emergence of one of the major workers’movements in the history of the United States, including the occupation of the state capitol bythousands of demonstrators for 17 days. Theprotests against the governor drew one hundredthousand people. In this article we describe theevents and their implications for the class struggleand the political debate in the United States. As manifestações de trabalhadores e estudantes em Wisconsin, de fevereiro a abril, marcamuma nova fase na disputa política estadunidense. Num contexto em que democratase republicanos atuavam em conjunto em defesa de políticas de austeridade, medidasantissindicais do governador de Wisconsin levaram à emergência de um dos principaismovimentos de trabalhadores da história dos Estados Unidos, incluindo a ocupação da sededo governo por milhares de manifestantes por 17 dias. Os protestos contra o governadorchegaram a reunir 100 mil pessoas. Neste artigo, descrevem-se os eventos e suas implicaçõespara a luta de classes e o debate político nos Estados Unidos.
