Descripción :	In the latest decades one has verified a significant increase in the voyages to natural areas. This demand brings along an urgent necessity to develop the touristic segment, with a view to satisfy different motivations of the trip. Along with this necessity comes the fact that a great part of the natural areas are located in protected areas, which must follow a rigorous public visiting program, so that environmental conservation is conciliated with the public usage.  Facing this reality, the objective of this work is to discuss the relationship between geotourism and the conservation units, identifying if such relationship is only a reflex of a current tendency for diversification of the touristic segments or if its implementation is a real necessity. The methodology used to reach these objectives was based on the bibliographical analysis concerning the theme. The conclusion presents to be revealing in the sense that the new touristic segment has multiple facets, which will be uncovered along this article. Nas últimas décadas tem-se verificado um aumento significativo das viagens para as áreas naturais. Essa demanda traz consigo a necessidade premente de se incrementar a segmentação turística, visando satisfazer as diferentes motivações da viagem. Aliado a essa necessidade soma-se que grande parte das áreas naturais se encontra em áreas protegidas, as quais devem seguir um rigoroso programa de visitação pública, de forma a conciliar a conservação ambiental com o uso público. Diante dessa realidade, o objetivo desse trabalho é apresentar uma revisão sobre a relação do geoturismo com as unidades de conservação, identificando se a mesma é apenas reflexo de uma tendência atual de diversificação dos segmentos turísticos ou se sua implantação realmente é uma necessidade. A metodologia empregada para atingir esse objetivo baseou-se em análise bibliográfica pertinente ao tema. A conclusão se apresenta reveladora no sentido de que esse novo segmento turístico possui múltiplas facetas, as quais serão descortinadas ao longo desse artigo.
