dc.descriptionLa historia y la agronomía latinoamericanas se desentendieron hasta hace algunos años del análisis histórico riguroso de las transformaciones en los sistemas de producción agropecuarios y más específicamente los de las principales zonas cafetaleras del subcontinente. El riesgo evidente es el de atribuir al café la responsabilidad histórica o actual por génesis y desenlaces que no Ie son atribuibles y que sólo un análisis comparado más amplio podría dilucidar. En otras palabras, hay que seguir estudiando al café por su indudable importancia económica, social y política, tanto en el pasado como en el presente, pero convendría "descafetizar" un tanto nuestros enfoques a fin de comprenderlo mejor, en toda su complejidad y en su justa dimensión, inserto en un complejo entramado de funciones productivas e interacciones humanas, fuera de las cuales nos resultará a fin de cuentas inexplicable.-
dc.descriptionUntil a few years ago, Latin American history and agronomy ignored the rigorous historical analysis of the transformations in the agricultural production systems and more specifically those of the main coffee growing areas of the subcontinent. The evident risk is that of attributing to coffee the historical or current responsibility for genesis and outcomes that are not attributable to it and that only a broader comparative analysis could elucidate. In other words, we must continue to study coffee for its unquestionable economic, social and political importance, both in the past and in the present, but it would be advisable to "decaffeinate" our approaches somewhat in order to understand it better, in all its complexity and in its right dimension, inserted in a complex web of productive functions and human interactions, outside of which it will ultimately be inexplicable to us.-
