dc.descriptionThis paper aims to provide a clear and operational definition of what social representations are, It describes their relationship with Durkheim’s notion of collective representations, and their basic assumptions as proposed by its lead author, Serge Moscovici. The paper presents a research-oriented scheme for understanding the theory; it also distinguishes the object, the population, and the context as key elements to take into account once we become interested in its methodological approach. In the second part the paper integrates the theory of social representations with the general framework of social thought theories, which are understood as belonging to the social psychology field of knowledge. This conceptual and epistemological integration makes it possible to answer the question raised in the title: what is social in social representations?en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo busca aportar una definición clara y operacional de las representaciones sociales, su relación con la noción de representaciones colectivas de Durkheim y sus presupuestos de base, según fueron planteados por su autor principal Serge Moscovici. Se presenta un esquema de comprensión de la teoría dirigido al trabajo de investigación, diferenciando objeto, población y contexto, como elementos fundamentales a tener en cuenta, una vez que nos interesamos en su abordaje metodológico. En una segunda parte, el artículo integra la teoría de las Representaciones Sociales al marco general de las teorías del pensamiento social, entendido como un enfoque y un campo del conocimiento típicamente de psicología social. Esta integración conceptual y epistemológica permite responder a la pregunta que se plantea en el título: ¿qué hay de social en las representaciones sociales?es-ES
