dc.descriptionThe concept of threat is discussed as a variable in social research, particularly as predictor of prejudice in intergroup relations. Two traditions in social sciences that have developed theories of threat are examined. The former is a sociological theory formulates by George Herbert Blumer and posteriorly developed by contemporary sociologists. The second theory of threat is located in the social psychology and was developed by Walter Stephan and colleagues. Both views are showed and compared in the framework of a Costa Rican’s social research.en-US
dc.descriptionSe discute el concepto de amenaza como una variable en la investigación social  que predice el prejuicio en las relaciones intergrupales. Al respecto se revisan dos formulaciones en las Ciencias Sociales. La primera de estas perspectivas proviene de la tradición sociológica desarrollada por George Herbert Blumer y posteriormente continuada por sociólogos contemporáneos. El segundo enfoque de amenaza se ubica en la psicología social y ha sido desarrollado por Walter Stephan y colaboradores. Ambas perspectivas teóricas se presentan y comparan en el marco de una investigación costarricense.es-ES
