Aparece al principio junto a un amigo suyo, también del círculo social al que pertenece, que se llama Anselmo. Anselmo le presenta a Mariana, una muchacha muy hermosa que va a convertirse en el fenómeno central de la historia. La novela empieza con un encuentro sexual entre los tres personajes; ahí se descubre el elemento clave que utilizará el autor para construir el mundo de los personajes en la novela: el erotismo. He appears at the beginning with a friend of his, also from the social circle to which he belongs, whose name is Anselmo. Anselmo introduces him to Mariana, a very beautiful girl who is going to become the central phenomenon in the story. The novel begins with a sexual encounter between the three characters; there the key element that the author will use to build the world of the characters in the novel is discovered: eroticism.
