| dc.description | Following the revitalization of a popular feasts such as San Jon in Cabo Verde, this article highlights how this traditional feast is co-produced by those who left their rural villages in search of a better life in the USA and those who stay hoping to enhance the emigrant’s desire to return. These collective events not only help to sustain a relationship with a homeland, they also contribute to the flows of emigrant remittances and a transnational flow of gift exchange. In between departing and returning, migrants revitalize traditions, contribute to the wellbeing of rural lifestyles, and become agents of economic and cultural investment in their homeland. | en-US |
| dc.description | Centrado en la revitalización de las fiestas de San Juan en un pueblo de la isla rural de São Nicolau (Cabo Verde), este artículo destaca cómo esta tradición es coproducida y preservada —por quienes se quedan y quienes se van— en un esfuerzo orquestado para despertar el deseo de retornar. Estos eventos no solo ayudan a mantener las relaciones de los migrantes con su país de origen, también aseguran sus inversiones y regalos. Este artículo discutirá, en primer lugar, los preparativos para ir a la fiesta de San Juan realizados en el contexto de la diáspora caboverdiana en EE.UU. A continuación me centraré en la fiesta como es hoy día, y en la presencia capilar de dichos migrantes en la isla, mostrando cómo San Juan, la vida y el bienestar del pueblo son coproducidos por la participación de los migrantes, los cuales se encuentran en un punto medio entre aquellos que se quedan y aquellos que se van. | es-ES |
