The paper analyses the impact of the Great Recession on trade union representation in Southern Europe. The economic and employment cycle, and especially the major unilateral reforms of labour markets and collective bargaining, have affected union representation in these countries. In Italy and Spain, union representation has resisted the onslaught of institutional reforms and the crisis, which have had a greater effect on Portugal and, above all, Greece.en-US
