| dc.description | This article focuses on the formal and informal social support that children receive at the beginning of a foster-care process, when they are separated from their biological family for reasons of security in respect of their physical, mental and/or emotional well-being. After a care placement has been established, a series of changes begin to take place, both in terms of residence and daily routines and habits that affect the stability and emotional well-being of children. In this regard, social support is a key factor that helps fostered children to cope with this situation of intense change, which is anything but easy to assimilate. To understand the relevance of this support, qualitative research was carried out in four different regions of Spain, using focus groups and interviews with 63 professionals from the child welfare system, 42 fathers and mothers and 30 fostered children. The results show how much is gained by children who receive social support at this stage of their lives, both from their formal and informal networks. Of special importance is the support received from their caseworkers and from the siblings who live with them. The findings also highlight the need to include the voices of children in their own foster care process and in research in which they are involved. | en-US |
| dc.description | El presente artículo se centra en el apoyo social formal e informal que reciben los niños y las niñas durante un proceso de acogimiento, cuando se les separa de su familia de origen por razones de seguridad hacia su integridad física, psíquica y/o emocional. Tras instaurarse una medida de protección, comienzan a sucederse una serie de cambios tanto de residencia como de convivencia, rutinas y hábitos que afectan a la estabilidad y bienestar emocional de la infancia. En este particular, el apoyo social constituye un factor clave que ayuda a los acogidos y a las acogidas a sobrellevar esta situación de intensos cambios difíciles de asimilar. Para comprender la relevancia de este apoyo se ha llevado a cabo una investigación cualitativa en cuatro regiones de España, utilizando grupos de discusión y entrevistas a 30 niños y niñas en medidas de acogimiento, a 42 padres y madres y a 63 profesionales del servicio de protección a la infancia. Los resultados muestran el valor que otorgan los acogidos y las acogidas al hecho de recibir apoyo social en esta etapa de su vida, tanto de su red formal como de su red informal. Especialmente, ponen en alza el apoyo recibido por parte de sus educadores y educadoras de referencia y de los hermanos y las hermanas con quienes conviven. Por otro lado, los hallazgos también subrayan la necesidad de incluir las voces de los niños y de las niñas en su propio proceso de acogimiento, así como en aquellas investigaciones que les conciernen. | es-ES |
| dc.description | Este artigo aborda o apoio social formal e informal que as crianças recebem no início de um processo de acolhimento, quando são separadas da sua família biológica por razões de segurança para a sua integridade física, mental e/ou emocional. Após o estabelecimento de uma medida de proteção, uma série de mudanças começa a ocorrer, tanto em termos de residência, como de convivência, rotinas e hábitos que afetam a estabilidade e o bem-estar emocional infantil. A este respeito, o apoio social constitui um fator-chave que ajuda estas crianças a lidar com uma situação de mudanças intensas, difíceis de assimilar. Para compreender a relevância deste apoio, foi realizada uma investigação qualitativa em quatro regiões diferentes de Espanha, utilizando grupos de discussão e entrevistas a 63 profissionais do serviço de proteção infantil, 42 pais e mães e 30 crianças em acolhimento. Os resultados mostram o valor atribuído pelos acolhidos ao facto de receberem apoio social nesta fase das suas vidas, tanto da sua rede formal, como da informal. Especialmente, valorizam o apoio recebido dos seus educadores de referência e dos irmãos ou irmãs com quem convivem. Por outro lado, os resultados também ressaltam a necessidade de incluir as vozes das crianças no seu próprio processo de acolhimento, bem como nas investigações sobre elas. | pt-PT |
