| dc.description | I intend to investigate the attraction that —in the context of liberal emigration in England during the Ominous Decade— the leader José María de Torrijos generated in the group of students at the University of Cambridge known as the Apostles. To do this, I will establish a dialogue between the existing Anglo-Saxon bibliography on this group with the different biographies of the conspirator. I will enrich my analysis with the memoirs written by children of the Apostles Alfred Tennyson and Frederick Denison Maurice and the Records of a Girlhood by the actress Fanny Kemble, sister of the Apostle John Mitchell Kemble. I will also include the correspondence of the Apostles Arthur Hallam and Richard Chenevix Trench, as well as the novel by Maurice Eustace Conway, with a strong autobiographical content and ignored in studies on the Apostles. I will thus delve into a little-known aspect of Torrijos’ life, investigating the reasons that prompted these students to follow him in his conspiracy, as well as, finally, to abandon him. | en-US |
| dc.description | Me propongo indagar en la atracción que —en el contexto de la emigración liberal en Inglaterra durante la Década Ominosa— generó el líder José María de Torrijos en el grupo de estudiantes de la Universidad de Cambridge conocidos como los Apóstoles. Para ello, estableceré un diálogo entre la bibliografía anglosajona existente sobre dicho grupo con las distintas biografías del conspirador. Enriqueceré mi análisis con las memorias escritas por los hijos de los Apóstoles Alfred Tennyson y Frederick Denison Maurice y los Records of a Girlhood de la actriz Fanny Kemble, hermana del Apóstol John Mitchell Kemble. Incluiré también la correspondencia de los Apóstoles Arthur Hallam y Richard Chenevix Trench, así como la novela de Maurice Eustace Conway, de fuerte contenido autobiográfico e ignorada en los estudios sobre los Apóstoles. Profundizaré así en un aspecto poco conocido de la vida de Torrijos, indagando en los motivos que impulsaron a estos estudiantes a seguirlo en su conspiración, así como a abandonarlo finalmente. | es-ES |
