| Descripción : | In the contemporary scene of Natal, the article discusses the physical elements that support the present narratives about its patrimonial area. The speeches of users (residents, workers and visitors) of the old neighborhoods, Cidade Alta and Ribeira, are analyzed based on the study of local history and memory. Among the results, we highlighted the influence of modernization discourses of the early 20th century still present in the way of the urban environment are interpreted. In the presented image, it is observed difficulty of the users to recognize value of modest parts of the site, those outside the standards of the modern city. In this sense, it is guide ways to enlarge remenbers and to erase negative images associated with the place. No cenário da Natal contemporânea, o artigo discute os elementos físicos que dão suporte as narrativas do presente sobre sua área patrimonial. As falas de usuários (moradores, trabalhadores e visitantes) dos antigos bairros, Cidade Alta e Ribeira, são analisadas com base no estudo da história e memória local. Entre os resultados, destacou-se a influência dos discursos de modernização de início do século XX ainda presente na forma de interpretar o ambiente urbano. Na imagem apresentada, observa-se dificuldade de os usuários reconhecerem valor de trechos modestos da malha, aqueles fora dos padrões da cidade moderna. Nesse sentido, orientam-se caminhos para ampliar lembranças e apagar imagens negativas associadas ao local. |
