| Descripción : | Examina-se, tendo em vista a documentação sergipana, as principais causas apontadas pela literatura especializada do relativamente pequeno movimento migratório interno da população brasileira no período 1872-1920. Sergipe pode fornecer um bom exemplo das resistências e tensões provocadas pela emigração de parte de sua população para outras regiões do território nacional, na medida em que, no período 1900-1920, apresentou a maior taxa líquida de emigração interna. Discute-se as tensões que esse movimento emigratório provocou no processo de reordenamento do trabalho após a abolição da escravidão em Sergipe e, finalmente, especula-se sobre o possível caráter disruptivo que teria sobre a unidade nacional a demanda intensa por força de trabalho dos cafeicultores paulistas na ausência de uma oferta internacional. In the light of historical documents of Sergipe we investigated the main causes pointed out by the specialized literature on the relatively modest internal migratory movement of Brazilian population in the period 1872-1920. Sergipe can provide a good example of the resistances and tensions caused by the emigration of a portion of its population to other regions of the nation, because into the period 1900-1920 Sergipe exhibited the highest net rate of internal emigration. We discuss the tensions that such emigrating movement caused on the process of reorganization of labor after the abolishment of slavery in Sergipe. Finally, we theorize on the possible disruptive character that the strong demand for labor of the coffee growers of Sao Paulo would have on the national unity in the absence of foreign immigration. |
