Descripción :	RESUMO O texto reconstitui o cenário sociocultural do Recife no início do século XX, investigando quais os fatos ocorridos e as idéias existentes no cenário pernambucano que favorecem o surgimento da Inspetoria Estadual de Monumentos Nacionais. Naquele momento, uma parcela significativa do centro histórico da cidade estava se transformando, e essa mudança, aliada às idéias defendidas, ao longo dos anos 1920, por Gilberto Freyre, líder do Movimento Regionalista, juntamente com outros intelectuais, como Anníbal Fernandes, foram as peças fundamentais de um processo que culminou na criação da inspetoria no final daquela década. ABSTRACT The work reconstructs the socio-cultural scenario of Recife in the early twentieth century, investigating the events and ideas existing in Pernambuco that favor the emergence of the National Monuments Bureau. At that time, a significant area of the historic city center was destroyed, and this change, combined with the ideas espoused during the 1920s by Gilberto Freyre, leader of the regionalist movement, along with other intellectuals such as Annibal Fernandes, were the cornerstones of a process that culminated in the creation of the Bureau at the end of that decade.
