dc.descriptionThis article explores the recovery of a fundamental genre of American cultural history, “the Plantation Novel”, in the sequence of Francis Ford Coppola’s new cut of Apocalypse Now Redux (2001). By ironically reclaiming some of its commonplaces, Coppola succeeds in attributing new significance to the end of the Vietnam War, an event that had great significance in recent American history. Using the tools of the semiotics of culture, the analysis also aims to elaborate an analytical framework to describe the functionality that this operation of reviving genres from the past can have for the historical present.en-US
dc.descriptionEste artículo explora la recuperación de un género fundamental de la historia cultural americana, “la novela de plantación”, en la secuencia del nuevo montaje de Apocalypse Now Redux (2001) de Francis Ford Coppola. Mediante la recuperación irónica de algunos de sus lugares comunes, Coppola logra atribuir nueva significación al final de la Guerra de Vietnam, acontecimiento que tuvo una gran importancia en la historia reciente de Estados Unidos. Haciendo uso de las herramientas de la semiótica de la cultura, el análisis pretende elaborar también un marco analítico para analizar la funcionalidad que esta operación de revivificar géneros del pasado puede tener para el presente histórico.es-ES
