Descripción :	In July 2020, the Forum for Historical and Democratic Memory of Espejo Comandante Pérez Salas, through the Córdoba Provincial Council, commissioned us to carry out a research project on the The falling soldier, the most reproduced image of the Spanish civil war and the birth of modern photojournalism. The main objective of the study was none other than to revise and update the most accepted hypotheses to date, which focused on Espejo (Córdoba). The most relevant results of the work, which were included in a Preliminary Report which we present here, touched on two aspects of the iconic photo: the definitive location of this and the photographic series, some 40 snapshots according to the ICP (International Center of Photography), and the identification of one of the people who appeared in the photos taken by Robert Capa and Gerda Taro, that afternoon at the beginning of September 1936. In addition, the work made it possible to locate two photos, attributed to Robert Capa, which the ICP assigned to the Córdoba front and which were taken in Castro del Río, eight kilometers east of Espejo. In one of them, historical deputies of the Spanish left could be identified: the importance of both images, which evoked the typical farewell photo, lay in the fact that they were taken shortly before The falling soldier. En julio de 2020, el Foro por la Memoria Histórica y Democrática de Espejo Comandante Pérez Salas, a través de la Diputación de Córdoba, nos encargaba un trabajo de investigación sobre Muerte de un miliciano, la imagen más reproducida de la Guerra civil española y con la que nace el fotoperiodismo moderno. El objetivo del estudio no era otro que el de revisar y poner al día las hipótesis más aceptadas hasta la fecha y que centraban el foco en Espejo (Córdoba). Los resultados más relevantes del trabajo, que quedaron incluidos en un Informe preliminar que damos a conocer aquí, se centraban en dos aspectos de la icónica imagen: la localización tanto de ella como de su serie, unas 40 instantáneas según el ICP (International Center of Photography), y la identificación de uno de los personajes que aparecía en las fotos que Robert Capa y Gerda Taro tomaron aquella tarde de comienzos de septiembre de 1936. Además, el trabajo ha permitido localizar dos fotografías, atribuidas a Robert Capa, que el ICP asignó al frente de Córdoba y que fueron tomadas en Castro del Río, ocho kilómetros al este de Espejo. En una de ellas pudieron ser identificados históricos diputados de la izquierda española: la importancia de estas imágenes, que evocaban la típica foto de despedida, radicaba en que se hicieron poco antes de Muerte de un miliciano.
