Descripción :	The Luso-Italian relationships in the XVIII century show a strong polyvalence. For this reason, one can analyze them from different perspectives. This is possible mainly because of the specificity of that century, a period of high transformation of the socio-economic context. The mobility characterizing European economy and society from that moment also affects the modifications of the causes and the connotations of Italian emigration in Portugal. This phenomenon takes a set of elements of italianità in the country and mainly in the capital in three big areas: culture (arts and sciences), trade and religion. These elements are present in Lisbon in the second half of the eighteenth century , in the framework of general reconfiguration of the Luso-Italian relations, both political and cultural. Concretely, there is a European projection of the Portuguese culture. This happened through two different dynamics. On the one hand, one could recognize the State’s ‘occupation’ of the public thinking, having as a practical application the implementation of politics of cultural organization, aiming to moderate the clerical hegemony in the academic field. On the other hand, this dynamics are also a consequence of the interests of intellectuals and politicians for the important scientific and philosophical Italian culture of the eighteenth century. As relações luso-italianas no século XVIII manifestam-se em toda a sua polivalência. Por esta razão, podem ser analisadas a partir de diferentes pontos de observação. Isto torna-se possível devido sobretudo à particularidade daquela centúria, que se apresenta como um período de profunda transformação do contexto social e económico. A este respeito, evidencia-se como a mobilidade que caracteriza a economia e a sociedade europeias a partir deste período inclui também a mudança de causas e conotações socioeconómicas da emigração italiana em Portugal. Este fenómeno traz consigo todo um conjunto dos elementos de italianidade no país, e nomeadamente na sua capital, que dizem respeito a três grandes áreas: cultura (artes e ciências), comércio e religião, presentes em Lisboa na segunda metade de Setecentos, no quadro de reconstrução geral das relações luso-italianas (políticas e culturais) da altura. Contextualmente, toma lugar uma projecção europeia da cultura portuguesa, realizada dum lado através de uma dinâmica de estatização do pensamento público que tem como aplicação prática a realização de uma política de organização cultural que visa subtrair a hegemonia no mundo académico ao clero. Do outro, tal dinâmica parte mesmo do interesse do mundo intelectual e político português pela relevante cultura filosófica e científica setecentista italiana
