dc.descriptionEste artículo rescata las actividades realizadas históricamente por los afrodescendientes de la región de Tamiahua. Explica en primer término cómo, y bajo qué argumentos, en 1782, los pardos, mulatos y negros libres de la laguna de Tamiahua, pescadores y milicianos a la vez, evitan ser alistados como tributarios de la Corona española. Asimismo, basándose en el Padrón Militar de 1790, la autora logra identificar las actividades tradicionales de las personas pertenecientes a este grupo, como es el caso de la pesca, la cual continúa hasta hoy en día realizándose en esa región.African Descendents in the Tamiahua Region: Fishing and Resistance to Tribute at the end of the Eighteenth CenturyThis article recovers the activities of the descendents of Africans in the Tamiahua region of Veracruz, focusing on how the pardos, mulattoes and free blacks of the Tamiahua lagoon avoided being included in the tribute lists of the Spanish Crown in 1782. The article describes the arguments these fishermen and militiamen used to achieve their ends. Using the military census of 1790, the author identifies the traditional occupations of individuals belonging to this group, particularly fishing which continues to be important in the present.es-ES
