dc.description	The occidental model of mental health support, dominant in Brazil, cannot be understood without considering nonprofessional curative practices and social representations of health and sickness. Here I summarize my research of the past several years on mental health and sociabilities, based on observation in institutions for mental health support in Brazilian cities.
