“I couldn’t stand it and exploted”: The expression of femenine “nervousness” in the care of children in the favela territories

dc.description	Motherhood as a collective representation is situated in a field full of ambivalence. If, on the one hand, we have an imaginary abundance of devotion, sacrifice and maternal loving, on the other, we have feelings of hatred, nervousness and tiredness equally present. However, while “positive” feelings are adequately socially conveyed, “negative” expressions of motherhood are sometimes censored, stifled or worthy of public scrutiny. Based on field work carried out with women living in favelas, I examine the anger and nervousness that poor women experience in relation to their children. In the course of research conducted with residents and state institutions, “nervous” women were part of a system of accusations about social disorders. Such women are criticized for beating, humiliating and punishing their children. Listening to the stories of these women about their care relationships, I analyze the place of anger and nervousness in a terrain marked by compulsory attention.	en-US
dc.description	La maternidad como representación colectiva se sitúa en un campo lleno de polivalencias. Si, por un lado, tenemos una abundancia imaginaria de devoción, sacrificio y amor maternal, por otro, tenemos sentimientos de odio, nerviosismo y cansancio igualmente presentes. Sin embargo, aunque los sentimientos “positivos” se transmiten socialmente, las expresiones “negativas” de maternidad a veces son censuradas, sofocadas o tema deescrutinio público. Desde el trabajo de campo con mujeres que viven en favelas, tratode pensar en la ira y el nerviosismo que las mujeres pobres experimentan en relación con sus hijos. En el curso de la investigación realizada con residentes e instituciones estatales, las mujeres “nerviosas” formaron parte de un sistema social de acusaciones de distúrbios. Dichas mujeres son criticadas por golpear, humillar y castigar a sus hijos. Al escuchar las historias de estas mujeres sobre sus relaciones de cuidado, analizo el lugar de la ira y el nerviosismo en un terreno marcado por la atención obligatoria, precariedad múltiple y violencia estatal.	es-ES
