dc.description	This article is based on ethnographic research conducted at an educational center for detained minors located in Buenos Aires (Argentina). These institutions house minors who are under detention ordered by the judicial system. Since the first decade of 2000, and as a result of different public policies and regulatory modifications, “education” acquired significant relevance in the everyday life of these institutions. Within this context, transformations took place in the institutional practices of “classifying” the youngsters. One of the criteria was the “educational level” obtained (elementary or high school level). In this paper, I explore and analyze some of the aspects that form these practices. In the first place, the way in which these new classifications manifest some of the institutional transformations and, at the same time, the way they articulate with longstanding dynamics that structure the modern confinement institutions. Secondly, I address these “novel” initiatives that are a constitutive part of everyday dynamics at the center, paying special attention to those that express the conditions of extreme social inequality experienced by the arrested youngsters.	en-US
dc.description	Este escrito se enmarca en una investigación etnográfica en curso, realizada en un Centro Socioeducativo de Régimen Cerrado ubicado en la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (Argentina). En estas instituciones se encuentran detenidos jóvenes menores de edad cumpliendo medidas penales dictadas por la justicia. Desde mediados de la décadas del 2000, de la mano de diferentes políticas públicas y modificaciones normativas, “la educación” adquirió notable relevancia en la vida diaria de los Centros. En este marco, se produjeron transformaciones en las prácticas institucionales de “clasificación” de los jóvenes: a partir de este momento, uno de los criterios para su construcción fue el “nivel educativo” alcanzado (nivel escolar primario o secundario). En este artículo, exploro y analizo algunos aspectos que configuran estas prácticas. En primer término, cómo esta nueva modalidad de clasificación pone de manifiesto algunas de las transformaciones institucionales mencionadas y, al mismo tiempo, se articula con dinámicas de larga data que estructuran a las instituciones modernas de encierro penal. En segundo término, y centralmente, me interesa abordar cómo estas “novedosas” iniciativas forman parte constitutiva de muchas dinámicas cotidianas del Centro, poniendo especial atención en aquellas que expresan las condiciones de extrema desigualdad social que vivencian los jóvenes detenidos.	es-ES
