dc.description	Desde su génesis, el campo de la Comunicación se ha distinguido por su marcado carácter contextual y pragmático además de una insuficiente legitimidad epistemológica. Partiendo de este presupuesto en la presente investigación se realiza un acercamiento a este campo desde la perspectiva de la metría de la información tomando como referente la producción científica generada en este espacio a partir de la valoración del rendimiento científico. En la presente contribución se analiza este particular a partir de la producción científica cubierta en Scopus en el período 2003-2013 y sobre la base de los indicadores de excelencia y liderazgo científico contemplados en la plataforma del Scimago Institution Ranking (SIR).ABSTRACTFrom its genesis, the Communication field has behen distinguished for its marked contextual and pragmatic character besides an insufficient epistemological legitimacy. Taking into account this statement, in the present investigation is carried out an approach to this field from the information metrics studies perspective taking as relating the scientific production generated in this area starting from the valuation of the scientific yield. In the present contribution this matter is analyzed starting from the scientific production covered in Scopus in the period 2003-2013 and on the base of the excellence and leadership indicators contemplated in the Scimago Institution Ranking (SIR) platform.	es-ES
