dc.description	Abstract. This article aims to help elucidate one of the most critical moments of the recent Brazilian financial structure, the so-called Crisis de Souto, in 1864 in the city of Rio de Janeiro. For this, we use abundant quantified, serialized and georeferenced documentation, pointing out the nuances of the problems posed by the crisis with discursive sources that expand our analytical potential. We assume that it’s necessary to better understand the operation and business of bank houses and thus understand the reasons and the immediate effects of the crisis in that society. It’s not possible to underestimate the magnitude, scope and structuring nature of the Bank Houses for the nascent banking and financial system in the Plaza de Rio de Janeiro.	en-US
dc.description	O presente artigo tem como objetivo principal contribuir à elucidação de um dos momentos mais críticos da recente estrutura financeira brasileira – a chamada Crise do Souto – em 1864 na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Partimos da premissa que é necessário conhecer melhor o funcionamento e negócios das Casas Bancárias para entender os motivos e efeitos imediatos da crise na sociedade. Dessa forma, o artigo é estruturado da seguinte maneira: uma introdução que debate as interpretações contemporâneas e pesquisas historiográficas sobre a crise; uma análise dos principais credores e outra dos devedores dessas casas bancárias e, por fim, nossa hipótese sobre a atuação das casas bancárias na preeminência da crise.	pt-BR
