Desde los inicios de la etapa neoliberal, las ciudades han sufrido cambios drásticos en su morfología, usos y distribución espacial. El proceso de urbanización de la sociedad condiciona nuevas formas de habitar y producir en el espacio urbano, acentuando la desigualdad y la fragmentación territorial. En este contexto, desde una ciudad intermedia mayor como Mar del Plata, Argentina, se intenta avanzar en la confección de un estado del arte sobre las problemáticas que aquejan a las ciudades y las dinámicas que se entretejen en su interior. A su vez se problematiza la noción de límites urbanos en una tendencia hacia la metropolización. Para desarrollar esta investigación se han aplicado en el segundo semestre de 2023 entrevistas a expertas que desde sus saberes e indagaciones han permitido reconocer las principales líneas de investigación en la Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata que tienen al espacio urbano como eje, se trata de referentes provenientes de Geografía, Historia, Sociología, Arquitectura y Ciencias Ambientales. Since the beginning of the neoliberal era, cities have undergone drastic changes in their morphology, uses, and spatial distribution. The processes of the urbanization of society have shaped new ways of inhabiting and producing space, deepening territorial inequality and fragmentation. In this context, from a major intermediate city such as Mar del Plata, Argentina, this study seeks to advance the construction of a state of the art on the issues affecting cities and the dynamics that unfold within them. At the same time, it questions the notion of urban boundaries in the face of growing trends toward metropolization. To carry out this research, interviews with experts were conducted during the second half of 2023. These specialists, from fields such as Geography, History, Sociology, Architecture, and Environmental Sciences, have helped identify key research lines at the National University of Mar del Plata that place urban space at the center of their inquiries.
