dc.description	The Cuban Popular Socialist Party (communist) in the early 1950s adopted a policy of democratic front and open elections, supporting the Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Orthodox), a nationalist party with ample sympathies. However, in March 1952, a representative of the oligarchy, Fulgencio Batista, conducted a military coup and the situation changed. The following year, a group of young people led by Fidel Castro begin the armed struggle. The PSP did not understand this polical line and criticized it. This paper tries to explain the party's stance with respect to the political power at this period and the reasons why it could not lead the 50s revolution.	en-US
dc.description	Em Cuba, o Partido Socialista Popular (comunista) no inicio da década de 1950 adotou uma política de frente democrático e de participação nas eleições, apoiando o Partido del Pueblo Cubano (Ortodoxo), um partido nacionalista com amplas simpatias. No entanto, em março de 1952, um representante da oligarquia, Fulgencio Batista, realizou um golpe militar e a situação mudou. No ano seguinte, um grupo de jovens dirigidos por Fidel Castro começam a luta armada. O PSP não entendeu essa linha política e a criticou. O presente texto tratar de explicar as posições desse partido com respeito ao poder político nessa etapa e os motivos pelos quais não pode dirigir a revolução dos anos 50.	pt-BR
