dc.description	El Instituto de Estudios Sociales en Población (IDESPO) de la Universidad Nacional, desde la perspectiva del mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de la población de la Región Centroamericana, impulsó la realización del Seminario Taller “Turismo Social en la Región Centroamericana: Una alternativa para la equidad, la calidad de vida y el ambiente”, celebrado los días 28, 29 y 30 de octubre de 1998. Esta actividad académica reunió a profesionales, investigadores, autoridades gubernamentales, representantes de organizaciones no gubernamentales y estudiantes, tanto del ámbito nacional como internacional, quienes debatieron sobre el turismo social como un componente del desarrollo de las sociedades en condiciones de igualdad, justicia y equidad. La visión con que se organizó este evento fue bajo la coordinación del Master Hugo González, investigador del IDESPO y el apoyo de instituciones académicas de gran trayectoria como es el Colegio Universitario de Alajuela (CUNA), por intermedio de la carrera de Turismo y el copatrocinio del Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia (IPGH), el Instituto Centroamericano de Turismo (ICT) y el Fondo de Beneficio Social (FBS) de la Universidad Nacional , fue de vital importancia para convertir este evento académico en una actividad exitosa en el campo del turismo social y en donde el IDESPO se convierte en pionero y marca un derrotero a seguir para avanzar en esta importante área del desarrollo social, cultural, ambiental y económico.
dc.description	The Institute of Social Studies in Population (IDESPO) of the National University, from the perspective of improving the quality of life of the population of the Central American Region, promoted the Seminar-Workshop "Social Tourism in the Central American Region: An alternative for equity, quality of life and the environment", held on October 28, 29 and 30, 1998. This academic activity brought together professionals, researchers, government authorities, representatives of non-governmental organizations and students, both national and international, who discussed social tourism as a component of the development of societies under conditions of equality, justice and equity. The vision with which this event was organized was under the coordination of Master Hugo Gonzalez, IDESPO researcher and the support of academic institutions of great trajectory such as the University College of Alajuela (CUNA), through the career of Tourism and the co-sponsorship of the Pan American Institute of Geography and History (PAIGH), the Central American Institute of Tourism (ICT) and the Social Benefit Fund (FBS) of the National University, was of vital importance to turn this academic event into a successful activity in the field of social tourism and where IDESPO becomes a pioneer and marks a path to follow to advance in this important area of social, cultural, environmental and economic development.
