This article aims to analyze part of the work of José Carlos Mariátegui, especially his reflection on the national question, through the literary and intellectual debates in which the author was involved. In this sense, not only will his texts be valued, but also the existing dialogue between his contemporaries and, in addition, the debate existing in the Latin American intelligentsia that preceded him, inserting the author's work within a broader context of Latin Americasocial thought in order to emphasize both the political and cultural background in which he was submerged and to identify the impact of his contribution at that timeO presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a obra de José Carlos Mariátegui, em especial sua reflexão acerca da questão nacional, através da contendas literárias e intelectuais em que autor esteve envolvido. Nesse sentido, serão valorizados não somente seus textos, como também o diálogo existente entre seus contemporâneos e, além disso, o debate existente na intelectualidade latino-americana que o precedeu, inserindo a obra do autor dentro de um contexto mais amplo do pensamento social latino-americano, afim de ressaltar tanto o caldo político e cultural no qual esteve submerso quanto identificar o impacto de sua contribuição naquela época.
