A análise de um governo do período colonial pode ser feita de várias maneira, porém em muitos casos é esquecido o principal instrumento que delega os poderes para a governação: o regimento. Os regimentos eram peças, sobretudo, peças literárias da ideologia da metrópole e para alguns não esclareciam muitas coisas das realidade das capitanias. Porém, consideramos estes como sendo o primeiro passo no entendimento das obrigações administrativas e jurisdicionais de qualquer governador que assumisse o cargo. Assim, este artigo faz uma análise de todos os 29 capítulos que constavam no regimento do Governador da capitania de Pernambuco, um exemplo entre os muitos regimentos que foram escritos para as diversas partes do domínio português. Tendo também como parâmetros algumas leis e cartas régias que alteraram este diploma e a perspectiva de alguns autores que estudam o tema. The analysis of a government in the colonial period may be carried out in several manners, however, in many cases, it neglects the main instrument which delegates power to governing: the regiment. The regiments were pieces, above all, literary pieces of the ideology of the metropolis and, for some, they did not clear out many facts of the reality of the captainships. However, we consider this the first step in understanding the administrative and jurisdictional obligations of any governor who took office. In this way, this article analyses all the 29 chapters of the regiment of the Governor of the captainship of Pernambuco, an example among the many regiments which were written for the diverse parts of the Portuguese domain, having, as parameters, some laws and royal letters which altered this diploma and the perspective of some authors who study the subject.
